Blast From The Past

The Retro Theme

If you were to ask me what my favorite fashion era is, it would be anything that brings about the classic, retro feel but especially the 20s with their shimmering golds and fringe dresses and the 50s-60s era with their bold patterns and brilliant brights.

For this Spring/Summer 2018, various patterns evocative of the retro period were seen during fashion week. Polka dots on modern silhouettes were spotted at the Valentino, MM6 and Jacquemes runway, colourful stripes reminiscent of the 70s were seen strutting  down Kenzo’s and Missoni’s and bright colours at the Tibi and MSGM shows.

With such retrogress inspiration in mind, it was only fitting for all of us to interpret the trend in each of our own way.

Meet The Squad

I have never been as excited for a blog post as I have with this one. You’ve met my best friend, Gershwin, before already on previous blog posts, however I have 2 new beautiful faces on here this time. Meet Che and Kate!

I’ve been online friends with Chezka and Kate for a long time now but I’ve never met Kate and I’ve only met Chezka once a long time ago.

The sun was happy, the sky was clear and fate was on our hands when we finally met them in person after two years of being online friends and after trying to meet for so long. They’re absolutely gorgeous, funny and really down-to-earth.  They’re also so fun and inspiring to watch because they immediately switch on when the camera is on them, it’s amazing. You need to be there to understand what I mean.

Follow them on their blogs and social handles to see more of their brilliance!

The Perfect Location

To fit in with the theme, we scouted for locations that would elicit the feel of the olde-worlde vibe and nostalgia. We found it in this perfect retro diner-inspired restaurant called The Diner located in Mid-Levels, Central. They had the red booths, the red stools, the delicious milkshakes and a vintage arcade video game player. They even had the back of a vintage Cadillac car as one of the seats which is where we actually sat and it was fantastic.

We then went to a vintage looking american pool room to play pool, chill and take more pictures. Kate’s boyfriend also filmed a BTS/mini lookbook for us while we were doing the shoot and Kate edited it. The final video came out amazing! Check it out down below or on Kate’s youtube channel!

What do you think of our modernized interpretation of the retro-inspired trend?
